Terms of Use
Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the CollectorCtrl software, documentation, and website (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
These Terms apply to the CollectorCtrl Community Edition. Enterprise Edition customers are subject to a separate commercial agreement.
License & Permitted Use
CollectorCtrl Community Edition is provided as free software. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to:
- Download and install CollectorCtrl on your own infrastructure
- Use CollectorCtrl to manage OpenTelemetry Collector fleets within your organisation
- Modify the software for your internal use in accordance with its open-source license
- Integrate CollectorCtrl with your existing observability stack and pipelines
Prohibited Uses
You agree not to use CollectorCtrl or this website to:
- Violate any applicable law, regulation, or third-party rights
- Intercept, monitor, or exfiltrate data without proper authorisation from your organisation
- Distribute malware, ransomware, or any malicious code through OTel pipelines
- Attempt to reverse-engineer or bypass any security controls within the platform
- Misrepresent your affiliation with CollectorCtrl or impersonate the CollectorCtrl team
- Resell or sublicense the software as a managed service without a commercial agreement
No Warranties
CollectorCtrl Community Edition is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the software will be error-free, uninterrupted, or free of security vulnerabilities. You assume full responsibility for the deployment, operation, and security of your CollectorCtrl installation.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, CollectorCtrl and its contributors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:
- Loss of data, revenue, or business opportunities
- Disruption to your telemetry pipelines or observability infrastructure
- Costs of substitute services or software
- Any damages arising from unauthorised access to your self-hosted deployment
This limitation applies regardless of the theory of liability and even if CollectorCtrl has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Your Responsibilities as a Self-Hosted Operator
Because CollectorCtrl runs entirely within your own infrastructure, you are solely responsible for:
- Securing the management server, database, and all network endpoints
- Managing user access, roles, and API token rotation
- Ensuring compliance with your organisation's data retention and security policies
- Keeping the software updated to receive security patches and bug fixes
- Backing up your PostgreSQL or SQLite database and configuration data
Intellectual Property
The CollectorCtrl name, logo, and associated trademarks are the property of the CollectorCtrl project. You may not use these marks in a way that implies endorsement of your products or services by CollectorCtrl without written permission.
Contributions you make to the open-source repository are governed by the contributor license agreement (CLA) or the project's open-source license, as applicable.
Third-Party Components
CollectorCtrl integrates with and depends upon several open-source third-party components including the OpenTelemetry Collector, OpenTelemetry Collector Builder (OCB), PostgreSQL, and others. Each of these components is governed by its own license. Your use of these components through CollectorCtrl is subject to those respective licenses.
Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Significant changes will be announced via the CollectorCtrl GitHub repository and this website. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision.
Continued use of CollectorCtrl after updated Terms are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not accept the changes, you should discontinue use of the software.

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising from your use of CollectorCtrl shall first be attempted to be resolved informally by contacting us at [email protected].
