Privacy Policy
Who We Are
CollectorCtrl is an open-source, on-premises OpenTelemetry fleet management platform developed and maintained by the CollectorCtrl team. The product is available under the Community Edition (free, unrestricted) and an optional Enterprise tier.
For questions about this policy, contact us at [email protected].
What Data the Software Processes
CollectorCtrl operates entirely within your own infrastructure. When you run the software, it processes the following data locally on your systems only:
- OpenTelemetry signals (logs, metrics, traces) from your managed fleet agents
- OTel Collector configurations and YAML pipeline definitions
- Agent connection metadata (host names, OpAMP heartbeat status)
- User accounts, roles, and SSO identity mappings stored in your local database
- Semantic attribute mappings and registry entries you create
- Build artifacts and OTel Collector binaries produced by the OCB Builder
None of this data is ever sent to CollectorCtrl, its developers, or any third party by the software itself.
What Data We Collect on This Website
This marketing website (collectorctrl.com) may collect limited, anonymised usage data through standard web hosting infrastructure, including:
- Page view counts and referrer URLs (no personally identifiable information)
- Browser type and operating system (aggregate statistics only)
- IP address (processed by our hosting provider, not stored by us beyond access logs)
We do not use tracking pixels, third-party ad networks, or behavioral profiling tools. We do not run cookies beyond what is strictly necessary for the website to function.
Email Communications
If you contact us by email at [email protected], we will retain your email address and the content of your message solely for the purpose of responding to your inquiry. We do not add you to any marketing list without explicit consent, and we will never sell or share your contact information with third parties.
GitHub & Open-Source Interactions
CollectorCtrl's source code is hosted on GitHub. When you interact with our GitHub repositories (e.g., opening issues, submitting pull requests, starring the project), GitHub's own privacy policy governs that data. We do not control GitHub's data collection practices.
GitHub release download counts are publicly visible and may be reviewed by us in aggregate to understand adoption — no personal data is involved.
Data Security
Because CollectorCtrl is self-hosted, you are responsible for securing the data within your own deployment. We strongly recommend:
- Running the management server behind a firewall or VPN
- Enabling TLS on all OpAMP WebSocket and REST API endpoints
- Using strong, unique passwords or SSO/OIDC for all user accounts
- Regularly rotating API tokens generated by the platform
- Keeping the CollectorCtrl binary updated to the latest release
Your Rights
If you have provided us with personal information (e.g., via email), you have the right to request access to that information, correction of inaccuracies, or deletion. To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be announced via the CollectorCtrl GitHub repository and reflected with an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the software or website after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
